Former farmhouse now house. Late C15-early C16. Close-studded
timber framing with tension bracing on a part rubble part ashlar
plinth; C18 brick at rear; stone slate roof with ashlar stacks;
later extension coursed squared and dressed limestone. 'H'-shaped
plan suggests original central hall with projecting service and
parlour wings, door to screens passage, with later extension at the
east end. Exposed timber framing to the roadside front with
timber-framed gables projecting forwards to right and left; gable
end of stone-built extension far left. Two C19 two-light casements
with leaded panes and two C20 casements one 2-light, one single
light all to the ground floor. Small C18-early C19 casement and
three C20 two-light casements to the first floor. All windows with
leaded panes. Early studded plank door, restored at the bottom,
with strap hinges and thumb latch, immediately to the right of the
left-hand gable. Small extension to rear of the left-hand cross
wing. C20 steel casements with leaded panes at rear of main body.
Axial and large projecting stack at the right gable end.
Interior: Through passage. Central room possibly originally a
small hall, open to the roof with first floor inserted at a later
date. Reused wide moulded spine beam with large square boss with
foliate decoration in quadrants, reputed to come from Hailes Abbey,
within this room the end of beam rests within chimney breast of an
open fireplace with bressumer beam. Early dressed stone fireplace
within the adjoining room, probably originally the parlour. Beams
with jewelled stops. Early plank door with thumb latch from
through passage to kitchen at opposite end. Flagged flooring.
Cambered tie-beams with curved wind bracing to roof.
