Part of former rectory (q.v. The Old Rectory North). Mid-late
C16; substantial alterations to the interior mid C20. Ground
floor: coursed squared and dressed limestone; close-studded and
small square-panelled timber framing with some decorative timber
work to the first floor at front; close-studded timber framing to
rear; artificial stone slate roof, ashlar stacks. Rectangular
range with shallow projecting chimney gable at right angles to the
south; house includes one bay of the early C18 range at right
angles to the north. C20 flat-roofed extension to rear, not of
special interest. Symmetrical fenestration to the gable facing
the road: two early C18 cross windows with wooden mullions to the
ground floor; two similar but larger cross windows to the first
floor one C20; C20 four-light casement to the gable; projecting
chimney gable to the right-hand return. Two cross windows to the
early C18 range to the right. Single-light window with double-
chamfered stone surround to the left-hand return. C18 cross
window to the left possibly within the blocking of an earlier
opening. Projecting chimney gable now with a wide C20 segmental-
headed entrance cutting a string course. Late C18-early C19 two-
light casement above. Two C20 cross windows to the rear; C20
casements to the first floor and attic. All windows with glazing
bars. Flat coping to chimney gables; composite stacks with
moulded cappings.
Interior: C20 staircase; beams with elongated moulded stops on
ground floor; beams with deep flat chamfers in the principal
bedroom; blocked ogee-arched doorway with a wooden frame from the
same room; small basket headed limestone fireplace with jewelled
stops; another similar fireplace removed at the time of resurvey
(March 1987).
