2/74 The Power House
GV II
House, by same architect as Dairy House (q.v.). Early C20. Red
brick, mostly pebbledashed, and close-studded and decorative timber
framing to the first floor; large stone slate roof tiles,
corrugated asbestos roof to outhouse, brick stacks. Rectangular
plan to house with outhouse at right angles to rear, formerly
housing generators supplying electricity to Dumbleton Hall on the
north side. House: 2 storeys. Outhouse: single storey.
South front: brick plinth and pilasters to the ground floor.
Gable projects forwards to the left with a 4-light sliding sash to
the ground floor; 3-light sliding sash above. Flat-roofed porch
with an early C20 part-glazed plank door to the right of the gable.
Five-light canted bay with sliding sash windows to the north-east
facing gable. Jetty lit by 3-light sliding sash above. Axial and
off-the-ridge stacks. Tall segmental-headed windows and double-
width entrances with brick dressings to the outhouse. All windows
with glazing bars. North-east gable end of house hipped. Axial
and off-the-ridge stacks. Interior not inspected.
Striking and virtually unaltered example of early C20 estate
architecture.
