7/34 Barn at Church Farm

GV II

Barn C.1625 restoredc1818. Timber framed barn of 5 bays with 2 bay C19 addition
aisled to one side. Exterior clad to north in red brick in Sussex bond, other
elevations weatherboarded. Roof half hipped to east covered in corrugated iron :
the original part of the barn to east has an angled queen strut roof with ridge
piece, through purlins and rough hewn rafters dating from the C19 restoration.
The wall plate is C17 and has a midrail and diagonal braces. The 4th tie beam
from the east is marked 1625 and the 5th is carved with the initials J & I H
1818. The aisle posts rest on brick or concrete padstones. C19 extension has
angled queen strut roof.
