1824. Square white stone pillar set diagonally, cut on the front as a sloping triangle
to fit an upper rounded front, finished at the top as a 1/2-dome. Incised lettering and
numbers give, on the 1/2-dome Parish of Basing, on the rounded front LONDON, on the
triangle 42, on the north-east facet Basingstoke 3 1/2, the north-west facet Hartford
Bridge 6ΒΌ, the south-west facet 42 miles Hyde Park Corner, on the south-east facet.
