26.4.57 Manor Farmhouse


C16, C17, and later. Long 2-storeyed timber-framed house with one-storeyed rear wings to each end of later date, irregular fenestration. Old tile roof, hipped at the north-west end, catslide to part of the rear; central shafted stack. Exposed frame with arch-bracing, filled with red brickwork, mostly herringbone on the east side, with signs of old windows filled; all on a brick plinth. The return wall at the west end continues the exposed frame, but the east gable has been clad in brickwork, in Flemish bond, and with a first-floor band and also signs of altered fenestration, the upper gable being tile-hung. Casements. Gabled porch on thin columns, enclosing a 6-panelled door within an architrave; another old door on the east face with 6-flush panelled door, architrave, carved brackets and thin flat canopy.
