SU 44 NE Primary School


1855, by G E Street. L-shaped school with house (of 1½ storeys) attached on the east
side, with minor recent additions at the rear. Tile roof, ½ hipped above the house,
Tudor stack. Walling is of flint with red brick dressings; bands, moulded weathered
band, cambered openings, buttresses, plinth. Later casements; the main (west) gable
containing a 3-light window of plate tracery with 3 cusped roundels. The prominent
porch has a heavy timber-frame on a base wall, the arched gable formed by curved
crossed framing; boarded door. Plaques on the west gables have Gothic inscribed
monograms, MP (Melville Portal) and CMP. -
