SU 45/4647 Nos 18 and 20
C17, early C19, early C20. Old-block, substantially altered. A timber-framed house
of one storey and attic is revealed at most of the rear, with a tile roof, small
gabled dormer and bricknogged framing, with a massive stack. The south side (No 20)
front has been raised to 2 storeys, one window in the early C19 and has a slate roof,
rendered walls, casements and a cornice above a doorframe. The north side front has
been altered as a symmetrical 2-storeyed front, divided by pilasters into 1.2.1
windows, with a central gable containing an attic window; roughcast walls, sashes and
casements and an early C19 doorcase. The centre front, with the old low eaves, has a
shopfront. Further rearward additions of an irregular kind. Included as a building
of mixed periods, with group value.
