Listing Text

4/33 Millhouse and Mill


House, attached to watermill by a small block. Early C19, with early C20
extensions to the house. A mixture of materials; stucco and brick for the house
walls, brick and boarding for the mill, hipped tile roof for the house, pantile
for the mill, with slate for the connecting block. The front (north-west) of the
house is 2 storeys, with irregular fenestration of 5 above 2 windows. The brick
walls are of Flemish bond with blue headers, cambered ground floor openings, some
infilling of former windows, the north side (of later date) being rendered.
Casements (with decorative shutters to the 1st floor). Plain doorway, with Gothic
fanlight and 4-panelled door. The rear extensions to the house are of 1 storey
and attic, with ½-hipped roof, the latest section having a widely-spaced bricknogged
timber frame. The mill is a rectangular block of 3 storeys, 4 windows to the
brick section and 1 to the boarded section (at the south end). Low pitched
pantile roof, walls of English bond, cambered arches to the small openings.
The 2 long fronts overlap slightly, and in the gap there is a single-storeyed
link unit with a slate roof, ½-gabled to the front area and hipped at the rear.
