Summary

A detached dwelling, of late C18 or early C19 date, with a C20 addition.

Description

MATERIALS: painted rubble stone walls, and a double Roman tile roof.

PLAN: a symmetrical range, set gable to road, with a main front facing north, and with a single storey rear wing.

EXTERIOR: two storeys, and two bays wide. All the twelve pane sashes have heavy tooled cills, but that to the right of the door is deeper, and original sashes. The central panelled door stands under a peaked stone hood on brackets. The roof has coped verges, each with a stack. Both gables are plain, although the rear has the lean-to range across part of its width, and continuing beyond the far gable.

INTERIOR: not inspected.

History

Rose Cottage was first constructed in the late C18 or early C19. An addition was built in the C20.

* Architectural interest: as a substantially intact pre-1840 dwelling, constructed of rubble stone.
