4/34 Houghton Farmhouse
House. C17 encased C18 refronted early C20. Timber-frame encased and extended
in brick, then refronted in cement render to resemble ashlar on ground floor and
timber-framing on 1st, old plain tile roof. 2 storey, 3 bay and passage/smoke
bay, wing to rear of left half projecting at left end. To left of centre narrow
bay with large ornate gabled timber porch on brick walls, under planked door.
In each bay C20 3-light casement with C19 smaller similar above. Roof over-
hanging with corner braces to hip rafters, hipped. Large stack above door with 4
moulded brick shafts. Rear wing at left half-hipped with brackets supporting
overhand and on rear roof face 2 moulded brick shafts. Used as village reading
room c1926.
