8/180 Barn at Buckmore Farm to North
West of Farmhouse
Barn. Dated "AW1769", earlier in origin; later alterations. Timber-framed with
brick walling of orange-red brick in Flemish garden wall bond; plain tile roof
(replacement tiles on yard side). Aisled 4 1/2-bay barn with opposed cart entries.
Yard elevation: rubblestone plinth to all except right bay; cart-entry infilled at
base with late C20 board doors, board hatch door to right; hipped 3-light dormer
rising from eaves on left, roof hipped on left, half-hipped on right. Rear: C19
hipped midstray; slit vents. Right return: slit vents, some blocked; dated brick
at centre; timber-framed gable with brick infill,left return: stone plinth.
Interior: large scantling timbers including jowelled wallposts with reverse-curved
braces up to tie-beams and straight braces to arcade plates, post at right side of
front cart-entry has graffiti including 'AW' (as dated brick) and "H.Powell 1817";
one replacement truss with nailed kneeler braces; wall ties; queen strut roof
trusses with clasped purlins, queen-posts at left end, old rafters without
ridge-piece, wind braces. Rear wall has brick buttresses.
