Underpass at Tweseldown Racecourse


Racecourse underpass. Late C19, built to take spectators on to the other side of the racecourse without trampling the course. Built in Flemish bond brickwork with black engineering brick to the coping. The retaining walls on each side enclose a flight of steps leading down to a tunnel with an elliptical arch of header bond brickwork with metal gates.
Included as an important component in a series of late C19 country racecourse buildings.
