SU 64 SE SHALDEN SHALDEN

3/25 The Old Cottage

House. Early C18, with mid C19 alterations and extensions. Brick walls and
tiled roof. The central unit has had slightly lower additions at each end;
symmetrical front (north-west) of 2 storeys and attic 1.3.1 windows. The roof
is ½-hipped and the lower part of the tile hung gables (each with an attic
window) meets the single slopes of the roof over the additions, with a hipped
section. Central stack. The walls are of Flemish bond, with a plinth, and the
remains of cambered openings to the ground floor, the window openings having
been renewed in the mid C19 with rubbed flat arches and stone cills. Mid C19
casements. Gabled brick porch with a boarded door. The rear wall indicates the
altered fenestration, and there is a low wing to the south side and a C20 hipped
roof loggia to the north side.
