8/45 Arford Lodge
A dwelling, being the stable wing of Arford House. Early C19. Brick (some
stucco) and slate. On the steep valley side, this L-shaped block is lower than
the east wing of Arford House, with 2 storeys to the shorter south elevation
(continuous from Arford House) and to the yard on the north side, but of a tall
3 storeys to the long east elevation (standing on the valley floor). Plain
hipped roof. The south elevation, of stucco, has 4 different upper windows, and
I ground floor window and a wide French door. The elevations to the entrance
yard have 5 and 2 openings, the windows being small Gothic lights, and doorways
with flat-oval arches; a C20 porch partly masks the wide cambered arch to the
carriage doorway. The east elevation has 7 windows to the 1st and 2nd floors,
the ground floor having 6 doors, giving access to cellars built against the
hillside: the walls are painted brickwork in header bond, with rubbed flat arches,
and ground floor oval arches. Many of the windows are now filled, and 2 have
original sashes. The north elevation has 3 storeys, 2 windows, Flemish bond
brickwork, small Gothic windows and a ground floor oval arch to a carriage opening;
from its north west corner a stone wall projects, to support the higher stable
