8/25 Hatch House Farmhouse
House, being the former farmhouse and the barn. C16, C17, C18, and C20. Stone
and tile. A timber-framed hall, with a C17 timber-framed wing at right-angles,
forming a T-shape, now virtually a rectangle due to C20 additions, a narrow link
to the (converted) C18 barn. Hipped roof to the original block, with gablets
and shafted stack, ½-hipped to the wing (also with a shafted stack), ½-hipped to
the barn, with mainly hipped roofing to the C20 additions. The old part, of 2
storeys with irregular fenestration, has exposed massive framing, with stone
infilling (some upper panels plastered), casements, and an entrance in a C20
unit, having a gabled canopy on an arch-braced frame. The link to the barn is
a narrow 2-storeyed structure, with tile-hung upper floor and stone lower walls.
The barn has stone walls with brick dressings, and much has survived of the
pattern of small slot vents (now glazed), the main elevation having 2 projections,
with hipped roofs, one a full-height window, the other with a full-width window
above an entrance.
