2/9 Clinkers
(Formerly listed as Clinkers
31.7.63 and Forge Cottages)

G.V. II

House, formerly 2 cottages. C17 timber frame, with early C19 rear block and
some recladding. The frame is exposed in the upper wall at the south side,
and the north gable, with brick infill and brick walling below (in Flemish bond):
other walling of the front and rear is in Flemish Garden Wall bond (with blue
headers at the rear), cambered arches to the ground-floor openings. Roof
thatched to front and tiled to rear, half-hipped to eyebrow dormers at the south
side; the rear slope of the main roof as well as the lower narrow roof
(forming a double pile) is tiled; massive tapered stacks at each end. East
front: I storey and attic, 2 storeys; 2.3 windows. Casements. 2 boarded
doors in plain frames, and another (former doorway now filled with a window,
the north elevation, with its unequal gables, suggests that there was a catslide
roof to the rear, indicating the added storey.
