SU 73 NW CHAWTON WINCHESTER ROAD

2/12 Chawton Lodge

G.V. II

House. C18, with early and late C19 alterations and extensions. Walls of
painted brickwork in Flemish bond, cambered openings, plinth. Roof hipped at
the east end, 2 gables at the west, with a slate roof to a west-side outshot,
and a tiled addition at its rear. North front: 2 storeys; symmetrical
5 above 2 windows. Sashes in exposed frames, triple to the ground floor.
Plain doorway with a fanlight within a trellis porch, having a lead-covered
oval top. The south (garden) elevation is partly slate-hung, and has an
arched staircase window; its chief feature is an arched French door, within a
large semi-circular trellis porch, of 3 oval-arched openings, with a concave
leaded canopy, having a Gothic eaves fascia. Interior: there is a staircase
and panelled doors in architraves.
