SU 63 SW ROPLEY WINCHESTER ROAD (A31)

House. Late C18, and early C19. Stuccoed plain walls, with a slight projection
of the east side. Slate roof, with moulded cornice on curved brackets. Earlier
core, extended and remodelled; south front of 2 storeys, 2.1 window. Sashes in
exposed frames. Victorian doorway, with moulded canopy on large brackets, and ½-
glazed door. The east elevation (early C19) has a segmental curve (being the east
end of the south front) at its south side, 2.1 windows, with similar details and
French doors. The west elevation shows 2 gables of different pitch, the rear (older
being steeper. The rear elevation (north) indicates the phases of construction,
and is mostly late C18, with 4 upper sash windows and a central rectangular upper
bay (replacing an earlier staircase light); there are outshot structures, including
a gabled porch. Original plain staircase within.
