House, now hotel. Mid C18, altered C19 and C20 large hotel addition. 2
storey and attic, 3 bay with parallel range behind and beyond C20 L-shaped
wing with end projecting and further single storey additions. Front has
central 6-panel door in projecting doorcase of pilasters and broken
pediment, with arched panelled reveal and fanlight with radiating glazing
bars. Either side C19 16-pane exposed-frame sash under segmental gauged
arch. Arch breaks 1st floor raised band. 16-pane sashes with exposed
frames on 1st floor. Moulded timber eaves cornice. 2- light hip-roofed
dormers. End stack, that to LH shared with other buildings. Inside ground
floor is one roof to front. On end, externally, between piles is 16
storey, weatherboarded canted bay. On ground floor 12-pane sashes on each
face. This used to be the study of Henry Adams (c1720-1805), the shipyard
owner from 1749-90.
