Small country house, now 2 dwellings. Late C18, altered C19 and C20.
Yellow brick, mainly stuccoed and painted, slate and lead roof. House set
across garden from Luttrells Tower (qv) and original part on axis with
tower. Original part has central part of single storey block 3 bays deep,
3 wide with ½ bay on either end; on garden side, flanking quadrant links to
2 storey hexagonal towers, behind one tower, parallel but offset to centre
range block, and linked to it, 2 storey 5 x 3 bay block, with single storey
links around courtyard to stableblock (this block and tower attached are
West, and rest of original part is East). Garden front has to centre
block, full height canted central bay with French doors to front and
cross-windows to front. Cornice over with pedimented parapet. Either side
lower rectangular bay with crenellated parapet and French windows with side
lights. Behind these front has parapet in form of pediment. Flanking
quadrant links have raised flat cornice and parapets in form of pediment.
RH tower has 1st and 2nd floor cornice and crenellated parapet. LH tower
the same except for altered front with slightly projecting crenellated bay
with 4-part French window and tripartite window over. To LH of tower
yellow brick 2 storey block. Other side of original centre part plain with
Tuscan columns flanking centre. Inside this single storey block are 3 main
rooms and a hall. The 3 rooms with plaster barrel-vaulted ceilings coved
in 2 tiers, and having good quality plaster plaque over fireplace depicting
classical scenes. Ionic fireplace in central room. Gothick fireplace in
hall and imported C17 fireplace with 4-centred arch and strapwork in other
room.
