13/16 Garden walls and temple
15-lOOm north-west of
Garden walls around walled garden containing temple. Late C18 altered
c1930 when temple built, possibly by Clough Williams-Ellis. Brick walls,
timber and plastered brick temple. Walled garden is parallelogram with
wall inside dividing area into one-third-and two-thirds; on central axis of
Eaglehurst House (qv) and Luttrell's Tower (qv) is yew hedge surmounted by
topiary work that breaks garden wall in front of house and interior
dividing wall and runs to far wall where it frames temple. Walls are 3m
high, plain but having several pointed archways. Temple is set on plinth
of 3 steps. To front 4 Tuscan columns supporting full entablature and
