6/67 Old Cottage

Cottage incorporating telegraph house. Circa 1830, enlarged mid C19. Brick,
thatch roof. 2 storey, 2 bay, tall cottage, lean-to at one end; tall, thin build-
ing has 1 bay which was part of telegraph house, probably originally having single
storey buildings each side, when other bay added one end and lean-to to other.
Front has in LH added bay plank door under timber, gabled offset, 2-light
casement over and in lean-to. Roof hipped to IH, stack to RH. One of the
telegraph stations on London to Plymouth line improvement (original line c1806) of
Admiralty communications between Whitehall and the outstations, soon made
redundant by advent of electric telegraph.
