6/105 Staddle Barn at Hale
Staddle barn. Late c18. Timber frame with weatherboard cladding (partly
tarred) on stone staddles; plain tile roof. 3 bays. 7 x 4 staddle stones.
Central entrance up brick and concrete ramp has double board door (the right
leaf narrower); a wide inserted window to each side; half-hipped roof. Rear:
opposing central door boarded across. Right return: large inserted window with
original loading hatch over. Left return: 2 later windows. Interior: complete
timber frame, comprising: jowled wall posts arch-braced to tie-beams; narrow
panels without mid-rail; straight wall braces. Wide floorboards, some
replaced; lower part of walls lined with boards (part removed). Roof has
collared queen-strut trusses; 2 tiers of staggered butt purlins; plank ridge,
on yokes at trusses; long raking wind braces to outer bays.
