14/33 Burard-Neale Monument (formerly
listed as The Neale Monument at
8.4.76 Walhampton)


Monument obelisk. 1840 by G Draper, builder G Banks. White granite, bronze
inscription tablets. Egyptionate obelisk on 4 step base. 4 slightly stepped
plinth with projecting central tapering single stone with tablet on face. Above
Eygptian cornice, 3 steps to 20m needle. Erected in memory of Admiral Sir Harry
Burard-Neale of Walhampton, MP for Lymington. Obelisk lines up with axis of
Lymington High Street and forms the end of a vista from Church of St Thomas at
top of street. G Draper of Chichester is also the architect of the Eyre Coote
Monument in Rockbourne.
