GV II

Small country house. Late C18, altered C19 and C20. Stuccoed brick, plain tile
roof. 2 storey and attic, double pile 7 bay building with different projecting
wings to 2 end bays on both sides, low 2 storey,2 span service wing at one end.
Entrance front has to centre pedimented bay with porch of 4 thin Doric columns
and flat roof. Under large 6-panel door, sash each side. In bay to LH side sash
in arched recessed panel, to RH high-set cambered-head window. Outside this
½ bay with thin sash. Raised band to these bays each side of centre. Each end
full-height, 1½ bay wide, half-octagonal ended wings. On each face sash in arched
recesses. Pilasters on angles. 1st floor raised band. Above each opening square
sash. Heavy moulded cornice, hipped main roof and wing roofs. Each side of centre
bay hipped dormer with sash. Behind ridge large stacks. Service wing to RH end.
House probably built by Rev. William Gilpin who lived there from 1788.
