Inn. Circa 1885, built after completion of Brockenhurst-Bournemouth railway.
Dark brick, parts of 1st floor and gables tilehung, plain tile roof. 2½ storey
3 bay main range, bowed at one end, with to roadside end bays 2 storey, one wide
bay wings and between 2 storey infill. Road elevation has to LH Dutch gable with
½-external chimney running up middle to stack with arcaded panel and moulded head.
To bottom left 15-pane sash under gauged arch with 3 raised keys. Recessed centre
infill has 6-pane door beside large 7 x 5 pane window under flat hood. Above
3-light casement RH wing has corner pilasters, 4-light casement under wide gauged
segmental arch with 3 keys, over 'Shaw Sparrow's' oriel window and tilehung gable.
On LH side of wing coved plaster eaves then massive external chimney rising to
short stack with moulded head. Behind this low 2 storey gabled porch, open on
ground floor and resting on piers, tilehung on 1st floor with 4-light casement and
½ timbered gable. Main range has RH end (facing railway) ½-octagonal, with
24-pane sashes under gauged arches with raised keys. Tilehung 1st floor with
sill band, central cross-window and 15-pane window in each side. Coved plaster
eaves to hipped roof. On ridge in centre and far end large stacks with arched
panels.
