5.12.55 (Rose Cottage)


House. C17, late C18. Timber-frame refronted with painted brick walls and slate
roof. 2 storeys, 2 windows. Cambered openings, with casements. Doorway of thin
classical features : pediment, projected lower cornice at sides, frieze, archi-
trave, fluted pilasters, panelled reveals, ½-glazed door. Plain service door at
the east side. Moulded eaves to low pitched roof, which is tiled at the rear,
with a cat slide (the lower, later part of slate). Within, parts of the framing,
old beams, and floor boards remain, and a Georgian fireplace.
