SU 43 NE WONSTON STOKE CHARITY

4/22 Wells Cottage

Farmhouse now cottage. C16, C17, C18, & C20. Timberframe with brick infill,
rubble flint with brick dressings, some render, roof Marseilles tiled. 2 bay
C16 house, end to road with thinner lower ridged bay added to road end and
parallel range added to side in C17, then C16 house refronted C18, finally
C20 bay added to side of C17 range. Roadside end has 2 C17 gables with ex-
posed timberframing originally half-hipped. Behind on left taller C16 gable
with some exposed timber C17 left gable has attached to side C20 outshot
porch. At right C20 gable. Left C17 gable has 2 irregular early C19 cast
iron casements. Right gable has C20 steel window below flat roofed porch.
Roofs all steep pitched and gabled. Inside C16 building heavy beams and
joists with carved chamfer stops in road end room indicating parlour with
beam in partition between rooms showing chamfers for door and window.
