House. Circa 1812 added to C19. Red brick with blue headers, slated roof with
lead ridges. 3 bay by 3 bay building with 1 by 2 bay wing and bay window added
to left side. Front 2 storey, 3 bay. Centre C19 4-panelled door, top panel
large, all with rounded corners, above plain semi-circular fanlight in gauged
brick arch. Either side large 12-pane sash with gauged brick arch. On 1st floor
2 wide 9-pane sashes either side of a narrow one, with gauged brick arches.
Front given effect of giant pilasters at ends and either side of door by vertical
strips of 4 at ends, and 2 in the middle, separated columns of blue headers,
rising to cornice of 4 course of blue headers. Wide overhanging eaves with
single modillion brackets. Low pitched nipped roof and stacks on eaves behind
ridge on return ridges with decorated chimney pots. House built for his sister
by Field Marshal Gomm, who fought at Waterloo.
