House. Early C18, and early C19. Brick walls, tile and slate roof. A cottage
farmhouse of 1 storey and attic, to which has been attached on the west side
a large 2-storeyed block in late-Regency style. The front (north) of the early
C19 part has at the west side a projecting wing with wide pilasters at each
side and a late C19 casement above a similar splayed bay, the east side has
the entrance in the corner (with a small late C19 window above) and there is a
large arched staircase window: the rear elevation of this part is symmetrical,
of 3 windows, with a 1st floor cill band and cement plinth. The low-pitched
hipped slate roof has a wide eave with a plain fascia and coupled carved
brackets. Brick walls in Flemish bond. The rear windows are Victorian sashes
to the 1st floor, with one late C19 casement and 2 early C19 French windows to
the ground-floor. The front door has a moulded canopy on carved brackets and
4-panelled door. The early C19 block is double pile, with a small outshot at
the west side; the lower early C18 part continues the front wall and has a
courtyard at the rear. The steep tile roof is ½-hipped at the east end and
there is a small hipped dormer to the front and a large gabled one at the rear;
windows are casement. Further to the east are 2 small projecting service blocks
(now garages) with hipped slate roofs and brick walls. The forecourt boundary
has flint walls, but the central part has cast-iron rails above a low wall (of
brick with a stone capping) with, at the east side, 2 piers (now cemented) and
a cast-iron gate. Within, there is a fine oak staircase
