SU 5332 ITCHEN VALLEY AVINGTON PARK

14/16 Bridge across river
90 m. N of Avington
House.

GV II

Bridge. Late C18. Cast iron with bronze decoration. Depressed arch of
3 girders, each side and in centre with some cross bracing, also on the curve
of the arch. Decorated skirting to outer girders with bronze heads.
Parapets consist of linked circles of iron held together by bronze clamps with
iron railing running along the top. At either end railings carry on and splay
out to barley-sugar newels. Iron transverse beams form edges of steps with
cast iron grills for treads.
