13/4 The Manor House

5.12.55 II

House. Early C18, altered C19 and C20. Brick with blue headers, plain tile
and plain tile roof. C18 5 bay 2-span building which had early C19 wings added
each side, in mid C20 these were demolished and replaced by 2 bay single storey
wings and main house given a mansard roof. Front 2 storeys and attic 5 bays.
Central 6-panel door in C20 'Queen Anne' style doorcase of architrave with key
block and moulded consoles supporting shell hood. Each side 2 12-pane flush
framed sashes with cambered gauged brick arches with blue bricks. let floor
string course with blue headers. On 1st floor 5 12-pane flush framed sashes
with segmental gauged brick arches. At etch end a corner pilaster. Mansard
roof with 5 2-light rounded-roofed dormers. Symmetrical stacks. C20 single
storey wings consist of vertically set bullseye window, 2 12-pane sashes
outside it, and hipped roof. Projecting forward at each end from these wings
is wall ending in pier, with square niche with rubbed brick head.
