Small country house. Mid C18, altered C19 and converted to flats late C20.
Stuccoed brick, slate roof behind parapet. Central 3 storey, 3 bay double
pile block with full height bay to garden front. To each side 2 storey
wing slightly set brace, of 2 C18 bays to right and 4 C19 bays to left with
porch in its right bays of fluted columns. Under round-headed door and
window. Single storey hip-roofed building in front of left wing with on 1st
floor 2 tall openings now with casements, above low parapet. Right wing has
round-headed window, and 2 openings, one blank, one with sash, above modill-
ioned cornice and parapet. In main block 3 sashes on ground floor and 2
12-pane sashes on other floors with blind central opening, with shutters to
all sashes. 2nd floor string course and modillioned cornice and parapet.
End stacks to both piles of main block. Charlotte Yonge, authoress, was born
here and lived in the house.
