9/62 Waltham Fisheries

House and shop. C15 timber framed building, with C17 Timber framed rear wing,
C18 extensions and improvements and rear outshot, some late C19 features. Front
walls of brickwork in Flemish bond, rubbed flat arches, stone cills: the south
side has heavy framing with a jetty and dragon beam, the rear part with exposed
frame, brick infill: brick rear wall with cambered openings and brick dentil
eaves. Tile roof, hips (with gablet) and half-hip to the lower rear wing. The
oldest part, with jettied north and south sides, suggests a once-isolated
structure (market house?) completely masked at the front by the attached brick
wall: the lower rear wing seems to be part of a larger structure, again timber
framed, now ending as an outshot. East front elevation of two storeys, three
windows. Sashes with narrow side panes. Plain central house door, the south
side being a late C19 shopfront. The interior is substantially C18, with a room
completely panelled, and with an arched niche cupboard; there is a hallway arch,
and doors in architraves.
