10/27 Bittles Farmhouse
II
House. Late medieval timber framed hall, with substantial alterations and
extensions of c1600, early C19 service wings, and many C20 features. Thick walls
of flint with chalkstone backing, brick dressings, high plinth, chamfered reveals
to window openings (several cement-covered): small area of tile-hanging above
brickwork of Flemish bond, small section of exposed frame. Tile roof. The
original hall had a large fireplace attached to its outside (and insertion of upper
floors) and a later wing built above and across one end (enclosing the fireplace),
forming an L-shape. Two storeys and two storeys and attic, irregular fenestration.
C20 casements, C20 doorway with canopy on brackets. Plain service wings (double
pile roof) at the south side.
