Description

SU 61 SW HAMBLEDON
10/9 Hole Farmhouse
II
House. Late medieval timber frame with smoke bay, late C16 inserted fireplaces
and upper floor, and timber-framed wing, and C20 extensions. Rendered walls,
tile roof. The building appears as a lobby-entrance house, with an east side
C20 extension: south front elevation of two storeys three windows. Casements:
plain doorway. The interior shows the framework, the fireplaces have chamfered
brick jambs and wood lintels, and the chimney appears to be built within an
earlier smoke bay: the remains of the north wing frame suggests that it was
added to extend an earlier crosswing. On the beams of a bedroom are the remains
of black-painted zig-zag patterns.
