House. Late C17, C18 extensions, and early and late C19 extensions. Walls of
brickwork in Flemish bond with blue headers, plinth, rubbed flat arches, 1st floor
band: some altered features, including a parapet: other walls of brickwork in
Flemish Garden Wall bond, also stucco, and another part of flintwork with yellow
brick dressings (plinth, rubbed flat arches with keys, 1st floor architrave band,
brick dentil eaves): rear wall of brick above flint. Tile roof, hipped but some gables.
A building of three phases, a late C17 lobby entrance house with a staircase wing
at the rear, an C18 wing at the west end (forming an L-shape) and a tall return wing
(late C19) at the north side. The main (south-east) front elevation is two storeys
and attic, 1.3 windows, the west side being raised and given a parapet at the 2nd
phase. Sashes in exposed frames. Stucco porch of a Tuscan order, on a raised
platform, with two columns and a plain doorway. The south-west elevation has a
projecting half-octagonal and taller unit at the north side, two storeys 3.2
windows (centre blank): the south side is stuccoed with a parapet and sashes, the
north is ornamental, with a central bay containing an elaborate pediment above an
arched doorway. The irregular rear elevations show the remains of the staircase
wing, and of the former courtyard arrangement (now filled in). Inside, the C18
staircase survives although altered at the lowest flight, the main staircase is
Victorian; the entrance hall is lined with C17 panelling (from another building).
