Public house. C18. Walls of painted brickwork in header bond, rubbed flat arches,
some Monk-bond, and tile-hanging at the rear. Tile roof, three hipped dormers,
plaster coved eaves. Symmetrical north front of two storeys and attic, three
windows. Sashes in exposed frames, Victorian to the ground-floor. Central plain
doorway with 6-panelled (2 top glazed) door, beneath a wide canopy on brackets.
Projecting from eaves level is a large wrought-iron bracket with side and lower
braces, each with a decorative crosspiece, the centre horizontal bar holding a
boarded inn sign, beyond which is a curved decorative loop (once holding a bunch of
grapes). Three wings at the rear, the south western being extended (alongside
Speltham Hill) as a stable block, with upper hayloft doors and central carriage
entrance to the rear yard.
