SU 61 NE HAMBLEDON EAST STREET, SOUTH SIDE

Two houses, once four, used as a Poor House c1720 to 1840. C17 timber frame, with
C18 and early C19 extensions and recladding, and C20 renovation. Walls of painted
brickwork in Flemish Garden Wall bond, plinth, brick dentil eaves: some walls of
flint with brick quoins and vertical bands, some parts rendered, small exposure of
the frame. Hipped tile roof, with catslide at rear. L-shaped timber frame,
extended to form a U-shaped block. North-west front elevation of two storeys,
five above four windows. C20 casements. Two plain doorways, with tiled canopies
on brackets. The other elevations are irregular, the long south-west wing (also
wider and taller) having hipped dormers (to an elevation of one storey and attic).
