30.7.59 Upper House

II

House c.1800 with C17 cottage attached to West side. Main house red brick with lime-
stone ashlar dressings and blue lias rubble plinth. Low pitch slate roof with front
parapet, coped gables and end wall stacks. Three-storey, 3 window range of glazing
bar sashes with cambered heads and stone keystones. Brick band over 1st floor and
ashlar flush quoins. Six panel door, flush panelled with projecting porch on octag-
onal piers. Blue lias stone lower 2-storey building attached to East side with plait
tile roof carried down and along rear of main house as outshut.

Attached at West side, cottage, blue lias stone, one-storey and attic with modern
plain tile steep gabled roof, gable ended to North and South and with West gable to
street. West end wall stack, one small leaded 1st floor window and small modern
ground floor window in West gable. South gable end rendered, possibly part
timber-frame. County Fire plaque on West gable.
