6/28 Rectory Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Mid-C19 remodelling of C17 structure. Painted brick rendered
at west gable end, plain tiled roof. Probable former hall-and-cross-wing
type plan retained when remodelled and presently having a three-bay main range
aligned east/west with cross-wing at east gable end and C19 parallel rear
range; large external chimney with offsets and detached stack (tied into gable)
at west gable end of original range, also large chimney to rear of centre bay
now enclosed by rear range; additional external chimney with paired diagonal
shafts to east side elevation of cross-wing. Two storeys with dentilled eaves
cornice at rear. South front elevation: 3:1 bays; all windows are 3-light C19
casements, the ground-floor and cross-wing windows having cambered heads;
entrance adjacent to cross-wing in third bay has an open pediment, moulded
architrave and 6-panelled door, the two central panels of which are raised
and fielded and the upper two glazed. Interior not inspected, but likely to
contain evidence of C17 structure.
