Farmhouse, now religious centre. Early C18 with mid-C19 and late C20
alterations and additions. Brick, partly handmade, ashlar dressings, plain
tiled roof has parapets at gable ends with moulded string and bases and
left end ridge stack. Two storeys and attic with dormers; three course band
between main storeys. Three bays; C19 pilaster buttresses with offsets at
each end of west front elevation and right side corner return; windows have
C19 hood moulds with returns and are all cross-casements, C19 on ground
floor and C20 on first floor; three flat-roofed C20 dormers with 2-light
casements; C19 central gabled brick porch, parapet at gable end above
moulded string, Tudor archway, coat of arms in apex, lancets in side walls
and, within, a C19 panelled door, and transom light with two glazing bars
beneath a cambered head. Attic lights in gable ends. Interior not accessible
at time of survey. C19 additions at rear. Cast iron, spearheaded railings
run parallel to front elevation on 2 feet high blue brick plinth with chamfered
sandstone coping. Railings are attached to house at outer ends by short
brick walls, and adjoin porch at other end; central gate to each row of
railings with cusped detailing and pierced quatrefoil frieze above middle
rail. A substantial early C18 farmhouse which, in spite of later alterations,
has retained much of its former character. It forms a group with the nearby
dovecote and attached cow house (qv).
