3/96 Goosehill Farmhouse

Farmhouse. c1600, with late C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber-framed,
brick infill and replacement walling, weatherboarded at east gable end,
shingled roof. Two framed bays aligned east/west with external sandstone
chimney and brick stack at east gable end, now enclosed within C19 and C20
additions. Two storeys. Framing: irregular, between two and four panels
from sill to wall-plate, large swept braces in lower corners, collar and tie-
beam trusses with raking struts. South front elevation: C19 replacement wall-
ing to east bay has a 3-light casement with a cambered head on the ground floor
and a 2-light first-floor casement. A C20 wing projects from the west bay.
Main entrance in C20 single-storey addition at east gabled end. Interior:
roof has intermediate collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts and one
tier of purlins; wall-frame retained between south-west addition and includes
a large swept brace; possible shaped doorhead in rear wall-frame to east;
large sandstone fireplace in east bay; winder staircase in west bay. The
house retains much of its original framing and some interesting features.
