House. C17 or possibly earlier with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations.
Timber-framed, painted brick infill and plain tiled roof. Three framed
bays aligned north/south with external chimneys at gable ends; the north
gable-end chimney has two re-used late C15 spiral-fluted stacks, one
concave and the other convex with concave octagonal caps (they are probably
re-used); the south gable-end chimney is C19 and has two concave octagonal
stacks. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: three panels from
sill to wall-plate, long straight braces in lower corners, collar and tie-
beam truss at west gable end, with one of probably three struts visible to
collar and V-strut in apex. Windows are C20 leaded casements: East front
elevation: ground floor has two 2-light windows and a single-light window,
three gabled dormers with 2-light windows; central C19 gabled balustrated
porch on a brick base with a moulded pendant finial and C20 door with a
cambered head. Interior said to retain original roof and north end fire-
place. C20 addition at north end encloses former external chimney, also
C20 extension to south of rear elevation. The house was previously known
as Rose Cottage. (VCH 3 (ii) p 456; BoE p 228).
