Farmhouse, now house. C17, or earlier, altered and extended early and late
C19 with further mid-C20 alterations. Part timber-framed, rendered infill,
part brick, stuccoed at south-west end, slate and plain tile roofs, brick
chimney at left side elevation, right main ridge, and rear left main ridge.
Hall and cross-wing type plan; hall on north-east/south-west axis with
through-passage and cross-wing at south-west gable end. Also late C19 service
wing at north-east end. Two storeys, attic and cellar beneath cross-wing;
dentilled eaves cornice. Framing not exposed externally. Front elevation:
roof of main part raised to front in early C19 to provide shallow pitch and
overhanging eaves and roofed with slate, regular fenestration; 16-pane sash
with moulded architrave to right of ground floor, 2 similar windows on. first
floor, the central first floor window is a glazing bar sash; beneath the left
side window are multi-paned double doors; central doorway has a pediment on
brackets, moulded architrave and part-glazed door. Left cross-wing gable end
has ground floor late C20 multi-paned double doors and a first floor 16-pane
sash. The right service wing gable end has ground floor late C20 multi-paned
double doors and a first floor glazing bar sash. There is an attic light to
the rear of the main cross-wing. Main entrance now at rear of main part in
mid-C20 lean-to extension. Interior: timber-framing exposed in attic of main
cross-wing; square panels and queen strut end and intermediate trusses. Main
part had 3 pairs of upper crucks, the cruck spurs replaced by wrought iron
straps; the front blade of the south-west end upper cruck appears to have been
removed. The front room of the main cross-wing has a cross-beamed ceiling.
Main beams are stop chamfered. Originally formed part of the Hindlip Estate.
