SO 85 NE NORTH CLAINES CP FERNHILL HEATH

House. Late C18 with early C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Brick, hipped plain
tile roof and large brick stack at left side. Three storeys with dentilled
eaves cornice. Three bays; windows have gauged flat heads and moulded archi-
traves; ground floor has 16-pane sashes, first floor has a mid-C20 casement on
the left side, a central 16-pane sash and a large 4-pane casement inserted
beneath a row of 4 small panes on the right side; on the second floor are
three 8-pane sashes; the central entrance has an ornate wrought iron porch
with swept lead canopy and doorway has an open pediment and pilasters, door
with 6 raised and fielded panels and barred segmental fanlight. North-east
side elevation has a 2-storey canted bay. Interior: main rooms have oak leaf
and egg and dart ceiling mouldings, room to. front right has Ionic pilasters
each side of bay window; open well staircase with turned balusters and moulded
handrail. Once the dower house to Hindlip Hall (q.v)
