Description

SO 86 SW OMBERSLEY CP WORCESTER ROAD (west side)

3/204 Gateway and quadrant
walls immediately south-
east of Sinton Lodge
29.12.52
GV II

Gateway and quadrant walls. c1830. Ashlar and wrought iron. Composed of
two side archways, round-headed, abutments of which have pilasters with
moulded bases and paterae decoration on capitals and above is a moulded
cornice and blocking course; either side of archways are concave walls
with moulded plinth and coping, approximately six feet high and 18 inches
in length which terminate in square piers with pyramidal capping. Between
the two archways is a pair of wrought iron gates with the initial "S"
incorporated at the centre of each; there is also a single wrought iron gate
within each archway. The gateway originally formed the main entrance to
Ombersley Court (qv) the initial "S" referring to the Sandys family. The
entire gateway was moved about ten yards to the west when the dual carriage-
way was built in the mid-c20.
