9/107 Berkeley House

House. C17, refronted probably mid-C18 with late C19 and early C20
alterations and additions for the Martin family. Limestone ashlar and
hipped slate roof with swept eaves and two large rear brick stacks. Three
storeys and attic with dormers, ashlar band at first floor level and moulded
eaves cornice. 2:1:2 bays; ground and first floor windows have plain raised
architraves on two corbels, the central first floor window has a moulded
keyblock, and all windows have 12-pane sashes, except for two bays to right
of ground floor which have an early C20 canted bay window with a moulded
cornice and 12-pane sashes. The second floor windows all have 6-pane sashes.
Central entrance has a moulded cornice and plain raised architrave, a door
with six raised and fielded panels and a plain transom light. Side elevations
have C20 flat-roofed dormer windows with 4-pane casements and left side has a
canted baywindow similar to that to the right of the front elevation. To rear
left is the original rubble C17 part of two storeys and two bays. There is a
C19 service wing to rear right. Interior retains its central open well stair-
case with turned balusters to first floor, stick balusters above and moulded,
wreathed handrail.
