15/27 The Fleece Inn
House, now public house. Probably C15, remodelled C17, and restored late C20.
Timber-framed with rendered infill on stone plinth and lias rubble addition,
tile roof. Five bays aligned north-east/south-west, main stack to north of
narrow central bay, probably a cross-passage, with hall to north. North-west
front: one storey with attic lit by two framed dormers; five assorted casement
windows, to left of centre a 4-light C17 stone mullioned window (with later
casement inserted). Framing: earliest section of two bays to north end is
two rectangular panels high with curved tension braces, next portion of two
square panels high, raised by a further panel. The Fleece Inn is owned by
the National Trust. (VCH, 2, p 259).
